supposed to be vacant but neighbors say they've seen people in and out of the house. police say a man in his mid 20s was shot in the backyard after the property managers got word that someone may have been trespassing the property managers... a man and his wife... took their dog and their gun... looking for any unwanted tenants. and that's when a confrontation went down. " the fist fight goes to the ground, at some point, i dont know if he regains his footing. but hes able to retrieve his fire arm." police say the intruder punched one of the property managers several times in the face before the manager grabbed his gun. no one has been charged in the shooting. metro did say there was a screw driver and other tools in the intruder's backpack thats commonly used to break into homes. a suspected drunk driver was arrested after police say he sped through a school zone hitting a father and his 18- month-old daughter. "when i came, the baby was laying on the ground, she was

" the crash happened right in front of snyder elementary yesterday... near charleston and lamb. police say the father and his daughter... were crossing the street-- and were not in a marked crosswalk...but cars did slow down for them. that's when police say the suspected drunk driver came out of nowhere... weaving in and out of traffic before slamming into them. the father and 18-month-old were rushed to sunrise trauma and are expected to be okay. the driver who hit them did fail field sobriety tests and was arrested. a gunman storms a business in kansas killing 3 people and injuring 14 before dying in a standoff with police officers. officials say the people who were killed worked at a lawn mower company...includin g the attacker, cedric ford. he killed someone in the parking lot before storming inside "excel industries" and opening fire. more local news -- mccarran's first passenger count of 2016 has been released... and the city of las vegas is once again on pace for another record- setting year. fox five's nick lagrange joins us live near sunset and paradise with a breakdown of those initial 2016 numbers. nick? -- las vegas first topped 40 million visitors in 2014. then last year -- the city topped 42 first time ever. the rate we're going -- the city will approach 43 million. department of today -- 3.6 million

mccarran international airport's gates in the month of january. that's a 7.3 percent increase over january of 2015, and the best year-over-year increase in ten years. the vast majority of those flying into las vegas are doing so domestically. however -- international arrivals are up 1.1 percent. what does this mean for las vegas residents? well -- it means growth and improvement. "all the people who come and stay in our hotels and they spend money whether its on shows or dining or shopping that all helps the quality of our life by funding schools, and teacher salaries and also roads." that was heidi hayes of the l-v- c-v-a. hayes says the over 42 million who visited last year translated to tens of billions of dollars in economic growth for las vegas. so if we calculate roughly 3.6 million in january multiplied by 12 months -- we get just over 43

automaker... lawmakers are accusing japanese automaker... takata of lying about test results to cover up their faulty airbags. a recent report from a senate committee shows that data on inflator quality and testing ...was manipulated to hide the problems. nearly a dozen deaths have been linked to the scandal. the airbags can explode when activated... firing out shards of metal and glass.s. takata faces multiple private legal actions, millions of dollars in fines and a u-s justice department investigation. the recall of the defective air bag now involves 14 vehicle manufacturers...m ore recently honda had to recall an additional 5- point-7 million cars. spring is almost here in nevada... but flu season isn't over yet... and getting vaccinated could reduce your risk

nearly 60-percent. according to the c-d-c... this year's flu vaccine is one of the most effective in recent years... with last year's shot only cutting the risk by about 20-percent. and it's not too late... due to this year's mild flu season... the vaccine is still widely available. new census numbers in japan show the population has dropped by nearly 1-million people. and it happened in just 5 years. the population in japan was about 127-million people at the end of last year... while in 2010...the country had more than 128-million residents. experts say the sharp decline is due to falling birth rates and lack of immigration. this is the first time a population decline has ever been recorded in japan. a 90s classic is back... how netflix plans to revamp the sitcom "full house."

more local news more local news -- mccarran's first passenger count of 2016 has been released... and the city of las vegas is once again on pace for another record- setting year. fox five's nick lagrange joins us live near sunset and paradise with a breakdown of those initial 2016 numbers. nick? jason and monica -- las vegas first topped 40 million visitors in 2014. then last year -- the city topped 42 million for the first time ever. and this year -- at the rate we're going -- the city will approach 43 million. the clark county department of aviation reported today -- 3.6 million passengers passed through mccarran international airport's gates in the month of january. that's a 7.3

over january of 2015, and the best year-over-year increase in ten years. the vast majority of those flying into las vegas are doing so domestically. however -- international arrivals are up 1.1 percent. what does this mean for las vegas residents? well -- it means growth and improvement. "all the people who come and stay in our hotels and they spend money whether its on shows or dining or shopping that all helps the quality of our life by funding schools, and teacher salaries and also roads." that was heidi hayes of the l-v- c-v-a. that was heidi hayes of the l-v- c-v-a. hayes says the over 42 million who visited last year translated to tens of billions of dollars in economic growth for las vegas. so if we calculate roughly 3.6 million in january multiplied by 12 months -- we get just over 43 million for 2016. hopefully -- we can keep that going. we're only in february. the events season hasn't really even started yet. march madness and next weekend's kobalt 400 should keep the visitors coming in droves
